Pink hour in London is nothing short of magical.
Between 5 and 6pm, the sky has that surreal, cotton candy quality to it.
Street art looks more majestic than ever.
And most importantly, there are seats available at Clerkenwell’s hottest new restaurant, Breddos Tacos!
From their makeshift taco shack in Hackney to their new, trendy brick-and-mortar outpost on Goswell Road via residencies and pop ups, Breddos Tacos has been at the top of London’s taco game for… well… ever.
Hence the queues if you dare coming any later than 10 minutes past the opening time. So better get there early to make one of the 30-something very coveted seats yours!
From then on, it’s all about unconventional Mexican fare.
Start with a few picks from the Tequila & Mezcal heavy, short but perfectly formed cocktails list.
Like a classic, refreshing Paloma.
Or a glass of the delightful Breddos’ Fizz (Tequila, Mezcal, Peach, Citrus, Egg White, Soda).
And then eat everything.
Make sure you get the Tomato queso fundito (there’s also a chorizo option, but surprisingly enough, the vegetarian version is better).
A little black skillet full of bubbling molten cheese just begging to be scooped up and devoured.
Fair warning though: there’s no going back from this, it’s definitely a strings attached sort of situation!
Then of course, there’s the tacos, both conventional and less so.
They come by the piece, so the best strategie is to get one of each to start, then order extras of your faves later on!
Beef Birria tacos with lemon onions and beef jus.
Ginormous Baja fish tacos with cabbage, lime mayo and pico de gallo.
Really good Masa fried chicken tacos with heritage tomato pico de gallo and fermented habanero sauce.
Pulpo tostada with black vinegar, Sichuan pepper and bone marrow.
The most amazing combination of perfectly cooked, tender octopus with rich bone marrow, creamy guac’ and a gentle kick from the Sichuan pepper.
Quite hazardous to eat, but well worth the risk!
Though best of the lot was the Kung Pao Pork Belly.
Slow cooked, melt-in-the-mouth pork belly, moist from confi-ing in its own fat, with delicate Asian flavours.
Just. So. Good.
Even if you think you’re too full for dessert, power through and get the Leche Frita.
It’s basically custard that’s been set, then crumbed and fried and served alongside dulce de leche (condensed milk caramel) and a flantastic to end your meal!
